Modimus Anvilmar was the last high king able to hold the three great dwarven clans beneath a single crown. The Bronzebeards, Wildhammers and Dark Irons lived under his authority despite deep rivalries over power and inheritance. When he died, their uneasy union collapsed into a struggle for Ironforge. The war that followed transformed the dwarves' homelands and ended in the fiery catastrophe of Ragnaros's summoning.
The Bronzebeard, Wildhammer and Dark Iron factions coexist under Anvilmar despite increasing tensions over authority and territory. After Modimus Anvilmar dies, rivalry among the Bronzebeard, Wildhammer, and Dark Iron clans breaks into civil war for Ironforge.
