Full History
The Bronzebeard clan secured Ironforge during the War of the Three Hammers, forcing the Wildhammers and Dark Irons to leave the ancient mountain kingdom. Their victory preserved the great fortress for their descendants but fractured the political unity once maintained under Anvilmar. Possession of Ironforge became the defining advantage of the Bronzebeards.
The struggle followed the death of the high king, when the three clans turned competing claims into open warfare. Under Madoran Bronzebeard, the clan fought to retain the citadel and the surrounding lands. The Wildhammers moved north toward Grim Batol, while Thaurissan's Dark Irons established a southern base. Exile gave each defeated faction both a new homeland and reasons to resent the victors. The struggle was not ended simply because the main fortress changed hands.
Later Dark Iron attacks would threaten Ironforge again, and the conflict culminated in the summoning of Ragnaros. Yet the Bronzebeards' original victory remained the foundation of their position in Khaz Modan. By the original World of Warcraft era, Ironforge's halls reflected a history in which one clan kept the capital and the others developed distinct cultures beyond its gates.
