Quick Overview

The Frostwolf clan resisted the corruption that seized much of the old Horde and was exiled under Gul’dan’s influence. Durotan and Draka died after their flight into Azeroth, leaving an infant son who grew up captive in Durnholde. That son, Thrall, eventually recovered the clan’s shamanic teaching from Drek’Thar and helped forge the New Horde.

Full History

The Frostwolves were an orc clan whose identity rested on family, kinship, and an older understanding of the spirits. When warlocks gained influence among the Horde, their chieftain Durotan distrusted the corruption overtaking the clans. His resistance made him an obstacle to Gul’dan’s designs. Rather than submitting, the Frostwolves were driven into exile, crossing into a world where humans now regarded all orcs as invaders. Their departure separated them from the campaigns that consumed much of the old Horde.

The clan found refuge in the cold mountains of Alterac, where Drek’Thar worked to recover the elemental traditions that demonic power had eclipsed. Durotan and his mate Draka were murdered after attempting to resist the conspiracy governing their people. Their infant survived and was taken to Durnholde by Aedelas Blackmoore. Raised under the name Thrall, he spent his youth under coercion and did not learn his heritage until he escaped and sought the people who had known his parents.

Among the Frostwolves, Thrall discovered a different model of orcish life from the violence of the old invasions. Drek’Thar taught him humility, reverence for the elements, and obligations to a community. Those teachings helped Thrall gather the scattered orcs, liberate the internment camps, and unite a new Horde. The Frostwolves remained an important living link between what the orcs had been before the demonic pact and what their descendants hoped to become.
