Full History
The Frostwolf clan's refusal to accept the Horde's corruption placed Durotan in danger before and after the invasion of Azeroth. His people tried to preserve spiritual customs that Gul'dan's warlocks were supplanting. That resistance cost the clan political security and made its leader a threat to the Shadow Council. The Frostwolves' dissent preserved another possibility for the orcs, but it came at a terrible personal price.
As the clans prepared for conquest, the offer of demonic strength divided those who sought victory at any cost from those who feared what the bargain would destroy. Durotan stood among the dissenters. The growing Horde nevertheless crossed into Azeroth, and his effort to warn Orgrim Doomhammer about Gul'dan exposed the rivalry between military leadership and hidden warlock power. Durotan and Draka were murdered, leaving their infant son alive but orphaned.
The son who later became Thrall inherited none of his parents' security, yet eventually recovered their story. His rediscovery of the Frostwolves and their shamanic practices helped change the course of the New Horde. The clan's refusal thus mattered even after its leader was killed. It offered a memory of orcish life outside the Legion's control and a foundation upon which a future warchief could build.
