Full History
Durotan's opposition to Gul'dan and the blood oath set the Frostwolf clan apart from many of the orcs who followed the emerging Horde. The leadership that had embraced demonic strength regarded dissent as a threat to unity. Instead of allowing the Frostwolves to remain among the dominant clans, it cast them out. Exile punished a chief who would not surrender the older spiritual and cultural identity of his people to the warlocks' purposes.
The Frostwolves' displacement took them away from the world of clan gatherings and stable ancestral homes. In Azeroth they found a refuge among the mountains of Alterac, far from the political center of the Horde's great campaigns. There they attempted to preserve their way of life despite their vulnerability and isolation. The exiles carried memory of shamanism, clan responsibility, and an orcish identity that had existed before the Legion's influence.
Durotan and Draka were murdered, leaving their infant son in human hands. Their child grew up as Thrall under the control of Aedelas Blackmoore, without knowing the clan that had preserved his family's traditions. His later escape and search for his origins led him toward the Frostwolves and their elder shaman Drek'Thar. He found not only relatives and history, but an alternative to the corrupted Horde that had invaded Azeroth.
The clan's survival became essential to the New Horde. Thrall's leadership drew upon the traditions he recovered, combining them with experience gained beyond orcish society. The Frostwolves remained a distinct people, yet their exile had helped preserve what many other clans had lost. The story demonstrates that a defeated and displaced community can become the keeper of traditions needed by a future generation.
