Quick Overview

Durotan and Draka sought to expose Gul'dan's hidden influence over the Horde, but their warning ended in murder. Full History

Durotan and Draka sought to expose Gul'dan's hidden influence over the Horde, but their warning ended in murder. Their infant son survived while his parents were silenced. That child would grow up in human captivity under the name Thrall. The attack severed a family and nearly extinguished a line of resistance to the demonic forces manipulating the clans.

Durotan had led the Frostwolves through exile and opposition to the choices made by many other orc chiefs. He trusted Orgrim Doomhammer enough to bring him dangerous knowledge about the Shadow Council. Such information threatened the political arrangement that had empowered Gul'dan and his followers. The assassination of Durotan and Draka therefore served more than personal hostility: it protected a corrupt system from a witness able to challenge its legitimacy.

Thrall's survival would later connect the old Frostwolf traditions to the liberation of the internment camps and the rise of the New Horde. Yet that later consequence should not conceal what happened to his parents. The original story is one of voices suppressed at the moment they might have altered the Horde's course. Their warning failed to prevent the war, but their son's rediscovery of it would become part of the orcs' eventual transformation.
