Full History
Malfurion and Maiev interrupted Illidan's use of the Eye of Sargeras at Dalaran, preventing him from completing his attack on the Frozen Throne. Illidan's powerful ritual threatened the distant prison of the Lich King. The interruption left the main struggle over Icecrown unresolved and intensified the conflict among the night elves pursuing him.
Illidan had secured the Eye in the Tomb of Sargeras after gathering naga followers and fleeing the Watchers. His plan was bound to Kil'jaeden's desire to eliminate the Lich King, whose Scourge had moved beyond its original demonic purpose. At Dalaran, Malfurion faced his brother's willingness to channel dangerous magic against a faraway foe. Maiev saw the ritual as another reason the exile could not be allowed to act freely.
Stopping the spell did not settle the fate of Illidan or the Frozen Throne. The pursuit continued, and Tyrande's disappearance forced a temporary reconciliation between the Stormrage brothers. Illidan would later travel to the shattered remains of Draenor and return toward Icecrown under renewed pressure from Kil'jaeden. Dalaran thus marks a failed attempt at magical victory, not the end of the Lich King's story.
