Dark Iron dwarves continued to operate beyond Blackrock Mountain, appearing in contested regions around the Badlands and other approaches to the south. Their incursions kept the old rivalry among the dwarf clans alive long after Ragnaros's summoning. The conflict was not confined to the volcanic halls where their emperor held court.
The Dark Irons had emerged from the War of the Three Hammers as a separate power under the Firelord's shadow. Their rulers maintained Shadowforge City while neighboring peoples fought for roads, mines, and defensible territory. Raids and outposts allowed the clan to exert influence beyond its stronghold. These activities also brought it into conflict with outsiders who did not share the history of the dwarf civil war but had reasons to resist its expansion.
The original World of Warcraft landscape reflects that continuing hostility through Dark Iron forces found outside Blackrock Depths. Their presence helps connect regional skirmishes to the ancient war over Ironforge. It should not be read as proof that any particular player has already expelled them from these lands or that the divided clans have settled their disputes.
