Full History
The Thandol Span linked the lands of Khaz Modan with the former northern human kingdoms, making it one of the great passages between dwarf and human territories. Its strategic importance grew as the Alliance of Lordaeron drew these peoples together against the expanding Horde. Armies and messengers needed routes that could sustain the movement of supplies as well as soldiers.
During the Second War, the orcish invasion pushed far beyond the southern kingdoms, threatening the approaches to the northern lands. The crossings between Arathi and the Wetlands became valuable ground because whoever held them could influence movement between regions. Dwarven defenses and human resistance formed part of the larger struggle to prevent the Horde from carrying its conquest northward.
Even after the Horde's defeat, the bridge remained tied to the consequences of war. The fall of Lordaeron and the spread of the Scourge later made travel between surviving communities more uncertain, while older roads still connected lands whose politics had changed completely. The Span's history is that of an alliance and its hard-won communications, built across a boundary that repeated wars made difficult to cross.
