Quick Overview

Gann Stonespire's quarrel with the dwarves began in the southern Barrens, where the Bael Modan excavation tore into land the tauren had long treated as home. The excavators kept working, and Gann came to believe that protest alone would never make them leave. The tauren had survived generations of displacement under centaur attack, and Cairne Bloodhoof's alliance with Thrall at last offered them a stable refuge.

Full History

Gann Stonespire's quarrel with the dwarves began in the southern Barrens, where the Bael Modan excavation tore into land the tauren had long treated as home. The dwarves sought relics and the history buried beneath the earth. Gann saw the broken hills, the noise of explosives, and the death and displacement inflicted upon people who had lived there before the expedition arrived.

Attempts at negotiation failed. The excavators kept working, and Gann came to believe that protest alone would never make them leave. He called for action against the dwarven foremen and their leader, Prospector Khazgorm, and sought the records of the expedition. To Gann, those journals were not just the observations of scholars; they belonged to outsiders who had crossed a boundary and refused to acknowledge the cost.

His anger reflected a wider change in Kalimdor. The tauren had survived generations of displacement under centaur attack, and Cairne Bloodhoof's alliance with Thrall at last offered them a stable refuge. Gann's struggle showed that settling in Mulgore did not settle every claim to the surrounding land. A new age of cooperation among peoples could still be undone by a single expedition that treated inhabited country as empty ground.
