Full History
The dwarves who came to Bael Modan saw ancient ground waiting to be examined. Their prospectors worked to uncover relics and remnants of a forgotten past, extending the exploratory habits that had carried Ironforge's scholars throughout the Eastern Kingdoms. But the southern Barrens were no empty frontier. Tauren families had their own histories, claims, and sacred ties to the land.
The arrival of armed excavators turned competing ideas of ownership into a deadly conflict. Gann Stonespire's story arose from violence committed against his family, and his anger could not be separated from the dwarves' attempts to establish themselves around Bael Modan. The expedition's defenders saw the area as a place of discovery and strategic importance; those who lived nearby saw strangers forcing their way into their homeland.
The clash exposed a fault within the larger age of renewed exploration. Learning about vanished civilizations did not excuse the displacement of living ones. Around Bael Modan, the histories of the tauren and the dwarves met in a struggle with no easy shared account, leaving bereavement and resentment where there might otherwise have been discovery.
