Full History
The dwarves carried the Explorers' League's curiosity far beyond Khaz Modan. Their search for relics and forgotten civilizations led expeditions across Kalimdor, where ancient remains promised answers about the world's past. In the southern Barrens, prospectors established operations around Bael Modan, treating the area as ground to be investigated and secured.
That ambition brought them into conflict with the tauren. The land held living communities with their own claims, and the presence of armed dwarven diggers could not be separated from the violence that followed. Gann Stonespire's loss of family gave the dispute a personal cost. What the prospectors regarded as excavation became, for their neighbors, an intrusion into a homeland already threatened by outside forces.
Bael'dun's history demonstrates why discovery did not always lead to understanding. The dwarves hoped that buried objects might reveal the world's ancient peoples; the tauren confronted a new struggle over lands they already knew. Their conflict grew from the collision of those purposes, not from any settled agreement about who had the right to explore and occupy the site.
