Full History
In the ruins of Gurubashi greatness, desperate troll leaders sought strength from Hakkar the Soulflayer. His gifts demanded blood and sacrifice, deepening the corruption of the empire he promised to restore. The Hakkari priests and Atal'ai zealots became central to the cult's survival. Even after a revolt cast down his power in Zul'Gurub, devotion to the blood god did not vanish.
The Gurubashi had suffered from the Sundering and the long erosion of their ancient empire. Their appeal to Hakkar promised supernatural help in a fractured world, but his demands grew unbearable. Other trolls, including forces drawn together with Zandalari support, resisted the cult's rule. Hakkar's avatar was driven back, while surviving Atal'ai adherents fled and continued their attempts to recall him through forbidden rites.
The exile of his followers helped carry the danger into the swamps where the Temple of Atal'Hakkar was built. Ysera's response submerged that place, yet the cult endured as a threat in the original world. Zul'Gurub and the sunken temple therefore belong to one longer history of exploitation, revolt, and surviving worship. The blood god's influence was diminished at different moments, not erased by a single defeat.
