Full History
Arthas sailed back to Northrend after the Lich King called him to defend the Frozen Throne. The weakening bond between master and champion left him vulnerable in Lordaeron, where Sylvanas had already turned against him. His return began a race to Icecrown with Illidan's forces, whose mission was to destroy the Lich King.
Arthas had once crossed Northrend as a human prince pursuing Mal'Ganis. He now returned as a death knight, commanding undead but diminished by the crisis threatening Ner'zhul. He met the fallen nerubian king Anub'arak, who guided him toward Icecrown through the dangerous underground kingdom of Azjol-Nerub. Their route demanded battles against defenders, enemies, and the frozen land itself.
The final contest was not for a human throne but for the imprisoned source of the Scourge's power. Illidan reached Icecrown with naga and blood elf allies, seeking the obelisks that would open the way to the Frozen Throne. Arthas's journey ended in combat with Illidan and a climb to Ner'zhul's icy prison. The resolution transformed the power behind the Scourge and concluded the Frozen Throne campaign.
