Full History
Sylvanas consolidated her position in Lordaeron by turning against the dreadlords and then Garithos's human forces. Victory brought the Forsaken control around the fallen capital and a place from which to organize their new society. The defeat of common enemies did not produce a restoration of the old kingdom or a durable alliance with its surviving human claimants.
The dreadlords had competed to control the undead left behind as Arthas's power weakened. Sylvanas enlisted Varimathras after overcoming his forces and then worked temporarily with Garithos against Balnazzar's occupation. Each arrangement served the immediate war for Lordaeron, not a shared vision of what should follow it. Garithos helped take the capital, but Sylvanas ordered his death once his usefulness had passed.
The result was the foundation of Forsaken rule beneath the ruins of Lordaeron. Sylvanas's followers had won independence from the Scourge but remained surrounded by hostile powers, including the Scarlet Crusade and other undead armies. Their leadership and territory emerged from a ruthless struggle over a shattered kingdom, explaining the mistrust that followed them into the original World of Warcraft.
