Quick Overview
The ruined human capital above the Undercity is the setting for a new Forever dungeon. Forsaken explorers are trying to reclaim relics and memories left behind when Lordaeron fell to the Scourge. A necromancer is gathering power amid haunted streets and shattered chambers. This instance is distinct from the older geographic Ruins of Lordaeron record and its Third War history.
Full History
Lordaeron was once the greatest human kingdom in the north, its capital a seat of monarchy, diplomacy, and the Alliance's war against the Horde. Its heart was broken by the plague and by Arthas Menethil's murder of his father, King Terenas. The throne room and the streets above became a place of political death long before the Forsaken hollowed out the Undercity beneath them. That original story explains why ordinary keepsakes and household objects in the ruins carry an uncommon weight.
WoW: Forever returns players to those remains as the Forsaken attempt a difficult form of reclamation. They are not restoring the old monarchy or denying its ruin. Instead, they seek fragments of the lives that their people possessed before death: letters, possessions, and the material memory of a society whose citizens are now scattered, buried or undead. Reports that a necromancer is rising among the ruins make the effort dangerous and turn the site into a contest over what Lordaeron has become.
The dungeon's immediate plot is new to Forever. Its necromancer should not be assigned a name or fate without first reviewing the instance's dialogue and quests. The older Ruins of Lordaeron entry continues to describe the ruined capital as a location; this separate record tells the group adventure inside it. A reader who begins at either article should be able to follow the trail backward to Arthas, Terenas, the Scourge and Sylvanas without confusing those known events with this new crisis.
