Quick Overview

The Razormane are a quilboar tribe whose settlements reach from the Barrens toward Durotar. They are part of the broader descendants of Agamaggan, the boar demigod whose sacrifice helped halt the Burning Legion in the War of the Ancients. Their raids upon the Crossroads and surrounding routes threaten the New Horde's new settlements even while they quarrel with other quilboar. Their history shows that the Horde entered Kalimdor as a newcomer among peoples with older claims to its land.

Full History

Long before the orcs raised settlements in the Barrens, the quilboar remembered Agamaggan. In the War of the Ancients, the immense boar demigod fought against the Burning Legion, and his death left an enduring mark on the lands of central Kalimdor. The thorny places and savage warrens associated with his descendants became part of the quilboar's ancestral world. To them the arrival of orc roads and encampments was no founding moment; it was another intrusion into a land they already regarded as theirs.

The Razormane are among the tribes that inherited that world. Their communities stand around Thorn Hill and Blackthorn Ridge, with bands pressing east toward Durotar. They combine skilled raiders and scouts with mystics who draw upon the tribal traditions associated with Agamaggan. Their numbers do not form a single unified quilboar empire. Indeed, the Razormane have hostile relations with the Bristleback, another people of the same broader ancestry, and the rivalry complicates the struggle against outside settlers.

The new Horde's foundation made these disputes especially dangerous. Thrall's orcs needed the road between their capital and outlying settlements to stay open. The Crossroads became a place where travel, supplies and military control converged. Razormane fighters raided those approaches and seized goods needed by the growing Horde. Such attacks were not simply wilderness hazards. They were resistance to a major change in local power, carried out by a tribe that had no reason to accept the orcs' political boundaries as legitimate.

Nor did the Razormane conflict stand apart from the story of the tauren. The Bristleback occupied lands near Mulgore and struck at tauren sacred places; the Razormane's feud with the Bristleback revealed how scattered quilboar groups could fight each other while also challenging the peoples around them. A traveler who learned the history of Agamaggan at Razorfen could follow that history outward to the villages and rival tribes carrying on his memory, often in violent and conflicting ways.

At the beginning of World of Warcraft, the Razormane remain a threat to both orc and tauren neighbors, with their own leaders, settlements and religious practices. The tribe's history is not reducible to a quest to clear a camp. It is the collision of a young Horde's need for secure passage with an older people determined to defend, raid and reclaim what they consider ancestral ground.
