Quick Overview

Tirion Fordring's faith faced its severest test when an orc showed him the honor his own countrymen denied their enemies. He protected Eitrigg despite the demands of his fellow paladins, sacrificing his position in the Silver Hand rather than breaking his word. Exile could not extinguish his belief that the Light required mercy as well as courage. His decision later stood in sharp contrast to the intolerance spreading among Lordaeron's embattled survivors.

Full History

Tirion Fordring served the Knights of the Silver Hand during an age when the order's purpose seemed clear: defend the human kingdoms and uphold the Light against the orcish Horde. His certainty was tested when he encountered Eitrigg, an orc who lived apart from the old Horde's wars. Tirion came to recognize honor in the man he had been taught to regard as an enemy.

That friendship brought Tirion into conflict with the laws and expectations of his own people. He refused to betray Eitrigg even when loyalty to the orc cost him his standing among the paladins. Exiled from the life he had built, Tirion held to the conviction that the Light demanded justice rather than obedience to hatred.

The fall of Lordaeron later made that conviction even more difficult to preserve. The plague and Scourge spread fear that the Scarlet Crusade would turn into fanaticism, while other survivors still sought ways to fight the undead without condemning every outsider. Tirion's earlier choice had already answered the moral question at the center of that division: an honorable enemy could be worthy of protection, even when a kingdom demanded otherwise.
