Tirion Fordring's encounter with the orc Eitrigg challenged the certainty of a paladin raised amid the hatreds of the Second War. The two men found honor across a boundary their societies treated as absolute. Their bond came at a cost to Tirion's standing, but it also exposed the limits of judging an entire people by the deeds of an invading army. His choice outlived the immediate dispute.
After the Alliance's victory, many orcs remained imprisoned and human fears of another invasion endured. Tirion's oath to protect the innocent collided with laws and expectations that demanded hostility toward Eitrigg. The short story Of Blood and Honor follows this conflict at a personal level, showing how a man devoted to the Light could find that the moral obligations of his calling were not always identical to the commands of his superiors.
