Quick Overview

General Drakkisath commands the dragonspawn serving Nefarian in the upper reaches of Blackrock Spire. His army forms the armed strength behind the black dragon’s designs and Rend Blackhand’s claim to rule the surviving Horde. From the Spire, Drakkisath watches a mountain divided among dragons, orcs and the Dark Iron dwarves. He is a military commander of the struggle for Blackrock Mountain, not merely a guardian at its summit.

Full History

Blackrock Mountain has never belonged peacefully to a single master. Its depths shelter the Dark Iron dwarves and the elemental power of Ragnaros, while the great spire above holds forces descended from the orcish wars. Between them stretches a hard-fought frontier of passages, strongholds and changing alliances. Nefarian, son of Deathwing, seeks to master that conflict from the heights, where his dragonspawn armies gather under General Drakkisath.

Drakkisath is not a claimant to the title of warchief. That ambition belongs to Rend Blackhand, who presents himself as the heir to the defeated Horde and maintains his own troops among the orcs, ogres and forest trolls of the Spire. The general serves a different authority: Nefarian and the black dragonflight. Their partnership gives Rend’s warbands powerful allies and gives Nefarian a mortal army that already knows the mountain’s fortifications and surrounding territory.

For the black dragonflight, control of the Spire provides shelter, soldiers and access to the volcanic heart of the Eastern Kingdoms. Drakkisath’s forces are essential to holding that position. Dragonspawn are capable of meeting heavily armed enemies in the narrow approaches of the fortress. Where the Dark Iron dwarves seek to defend their holdings below, the dragon general’s soldiers contest the mountain above. A struggle once shaped by orc and dwarf rivalries has become a war among several powers, each seeking dominion over a place of extraordinary strategic value.

Drakkisath’s command also reveals Nefarian’s distance from ordinary political allegiance. The black dragon does not serve Thrall’s Horde, nor does he fight for Stormwind. His arrangements with Rend are useful because they advance the dragonflight’s purposes. The general turns those purposes into military force. He is a living reminder that behind the visible orcish claim of the Dark Horde stands a far more dangerous patron.

From the halls of Upper Blackrock Spire, the general guards the route toward Nefarian’s domain. The way to him runs through the wreckage of old wars and the ambitions of those who refused to accept their outcome. His presence gives Blackrock Mountain a military structure as well as a history: dwarves below, the divided Horde within, and a dragon army defending its master above.
