Quick Overview
Chromie appears in the ruined town of Andorhal as an unassuming gnome, but her concern is the stability of time itself. The Scourge’s corruption there has left more than dead streets and contaminated grain: unnatural disturbances threaten the order in which events unfold. Chromie works to contain those disturbances, calling upon capable adventurers when she cannot safely act alone. Her presence reveals that the Plaguelands’ wounds reach beyond ordinary war and disease.
Full History
Andorhal was once an important center of Lordaeron’s grain trade. Carts and stores linked its fields to towns across the kingdom. The Cult of the Damned turned that network into a weapon, distributing grain tainted with the plague of undeath. The disaster that followed was part of the chain of events that destroyed Lordaeron and drove Arthas toward his fatal choices. By the time travelers return to Andorhal, they find a broken town where the past is visible in every empty street.
Not all of Andorhal’s dangers belong to that familiar history. Chromie, who takes the appearance of a gnome, is concerned by disturbances in the flow of time around the settlement. The Scourge may be responsible for the interference, but her work begins with the damage rather than a confident account of its cause. Strange temporal parasites gather near the silos, feeding on disruptions that ordinary scouts could hardly recognize. The instruments Chromie provides allow their presence to be exposed.
Her unusual task reflects the calling of the bronze dragonflight, whose charge is to safeguard the proper passage of time. Most visitors to the Plaguelands think first of the Scourge or the Scarlet Crusade. Chromie is watching a different battlefield. She must protect a sequence of events that the living and the dead alike take for granted, even while surrounded by evidence that history itself can be violently altered.
Chromie’s methods are practical. She studies, identifies disturbances and asks for help where help is needed. She does not arrive as a conqueror to claim Andorhal for a kingdom. Nor does she attempt to erase the plague’s terrible history. To mend the flow of time is not to pretend Lordaeron never fell. It is to prevent the ruin from being compounded by a disorder that could reach far beyond the town.
The gnome-like figure working in the inn thus stands beside one of Warcraft’s greatest historical tragedies with an unusually wide view of its consequences. Andorhal connects the mortal horrors of poisoned grain to the guardianship of the bronze dragons. Chromie makes that connection visible without diminishing the suffering of the people whose homes were lost.
