Full History

The fall of the Burning Legion at Mount Hyjal did not cleanse Kalimdor of every servant or temptation the demons had left behind. In Ashenvale, the Cult of the Dark Strand pursued forbidden practices amid woods already scarred by earlier conflicts. The cult threatened not only travelers but the fragile peace of a land whose defenders had only recently survived a world-shaping invasion.

Delgren the Purifier and his allies took up the struggle against the cult. Their work drew on the cooperation of people who had once belonged to different armies: paladins from the human lands worked alongside night elf defenders against a danger rooted in demonic corruption. In a region still recovering from the Third War, that partnership was itself a legacy of the alliance forged against the Legion.

The Dark Strand's story belongs to the aftermath of that war. Demons could be driven from the battlefield without ending the attraction of their magic to mortal followers. Those who fought the cult faced a quieter continuation of the same struggle, trying to prevent the remnants of forbidden power from taking root in Ashenvale after its greatest battle had ended.
