The Fragile Peace

Full History

Peace between Thrall's Horde and Jaina Proudmoore's human settlement remained fragile after the battle for Mount Hyjal. Their alliance against the Legion had been born from necessity, but memories of older wars did not vanish. Cycle of Hatred follows new provocations around Durotar and Theramore that threatened to revive open conflict. The danger came as much from distrust as from any single army's strength.

The founding of Orgrimmar and Theramore placed two new political communities within reach of one another on Kalimdor. Each carried refugees, veterans, and fears shaped by decades of violence. Thrall sought a homeland for freed orcs, while Jaina tried to protect survivors of Lordaeron without repeating the wars that had destroyed so much. Their aims did not guarantee that every follower would accept restraint or understand the motives of neighbors.

The story explores the effort to stop provocations from hardening into another war. The immediate crisis could be resisted, but the deeper work of trust remained unsettled. The original World of Warcraft beginning reflects that uneasy balance: neither leader has erased the past, and neither people has surrendered its interests. The peace survives as a choice that must be renewed, not as a final settlement.
