Quick Overview
The danger of dark cults was not confined to Lordaeron's ruined provinces. Ashenvale had already suffered invasion and disruption during the Third War, when the Burning Legion threatened night elves and newcomers alike. Nor should the association be inflated into a claim that the Dawn controlled Ashenvale.
Full History
The danger of dark cults was not confined to Lordaeron's ruined provinces. In Ashenvale, contacts associated with the Argent Dawn became involved with the threat posed by the Dark Strand. Delgren and Feero appear in the early quest narrative, bringing the wider struggle against corruption into the forests of Kalimdor. It is a smaller thread, but one that widens the geographical reach of the Dawn's cause.
Ashenvale had already suffered invasion and disruption during the Third War, when the Burning Legion threatened night elves and newcomers alike. Cult activity in such lands presented a different form of danger from the massed undead armies of the Plaguelands. The original quest chain introduced individuals willing to investigate these threats and resist their spread. Their efforts suggest why a principled order concerned with unholy powers could find allies far from its best-known northern frontier.
The historical account cannot simply declare the investigation successful, because the original game supplies missions to be attempted rather than a fixed record of every character's actions. Nor should the association be inflated into a claim that the Dawn controlled Ashenvale. The meaningful fact is the presence of Argent-connected resistance to a local cult threat, showing that its purpose was not narrowly territorial.
