Quick Overview
In the ruined north of Lordaeron, the Argent Dawn organized resistance to the Scourge beyond the loyalties of Horde or Alliance. The Scourge's rise during the Third War had brought down Lordaeron's monarchy and devastated cities such as Stratholme. The Dawn's cross-faction character also distinguishes it from the Scarlet Crusade, whose zealotry turned anti-Scourge purpose toward a harsher and more suspicious view of outsiders.
Full History
In the ruined north of Lordaeron, the Argent Dawn organized resistance to the Scourge beyond the loyalties of Horde or Alliance. Its members confronted a danger that had already destroyed a kingdom and turned great swaths of the land into plague-ridden territory. Their answer was an order bound by a common enemy rather than a single nation. The Dawn's presence gave survivors and volunteers a cause in the shadow of the dead.
The Scourge's rise during the Third War had brought down Lordaeron's monarchy and devastated cities such as Stratholme. The Forsaken later gained freedom from the Lich King's control, but many undead forces remained hostile throughout the Plaguelands. The Argent Dawn's outposts and contacts emerged in this unsettled landscape. Its members represented several peoples, an especially notable choice at a time when the wider world was divided into rival armed camps.
Original World of Warcraft quests encounter the order still recruiting and fighting; they do not show a completed campaign of reconquest. Its history is therefore the account of organized defiance amid a surviving catastrophe. The Dawn's cross-faction character also distinguishes it from the Scarlet Crusade, whose zealotry turned anti-Scourge purpose toward a harsher and more suspicious view of outsiders.
