Full History
When Lordaeron fell to the Scourge, the survivors of the northern kingdoms faced an enemy that did not recognize borders. The Argent Dawn emerged from that catastrophe as an order committed to resisting undeath, rather than restoring any one throne. Its members could scarcely afford to refuse help from those who shared their cause.
Other survivors chose a harsher answer. The Scarlet Crusade treated suspicion itself as a virtue and increasingly regarded even the living as possible servants of the plague. The Dawn's struggle was different: to hold ground against the Scourge without surrendering judgment to fear. Human and nonhuman volunteers alike could serve under its banner, united by the danger of the undead rather than by a common kingdom.
The loss of Lordaeron had broken the institutions that once protected the north. The Dawn filled part of that absence through isolated camps, supply routes and a willingness to fight beside former enemies. In a country where the living could turn upon one another as readily as upon the dead, that commitment gave resistance a purpose beyond revenge.
