Full History
Emperor Dagran Thaurissan ruled the Dark Iron dwarves from Shadowforge City beneath Blackrock Mountain. His kingdom remained a bitter rival of Ironforge, shaped by the ancient disaster in which Ragnaros was summoned during the War of the Three Hammers. Dagran's court was both the center of a living dwarven state and a dangerous stronghold within the mountain.
The Dark Irons had once fought their Bronzebeard and Wildhammer cousins for control of Ironforge. Their defeat drove Thaurissan to destructive sorcery that bound his people to the Firelord's domain. Generations later, the Dark Iron imperial line continued under the volcanic mountain. Dagran commanded soldiers and resources in a region contested by Blackrock orcs, fire creatures, and other powers. Shadowforge was not simply an abandoned ruin of the old war.
Dagran's position also became entangled with Ironforge through Princess Moira Bronzebeard, whose presence in Blackrock Depths troubled King Magni. The original quest landscape presents a continuing conflict and does not presume any player's intervention has already resolved it. The emperor belongs to the living politics of the original dwarf clans, not merely their ancient past.
