Full History
Newly awakened Forsaken rise in Deathknell to discover that the Lich King no longer commands them. Undertaker Mordo and Shadow Priest Sarvis explain the changed circumstances and direct the newcomers toward a society led by Sylvanas Windrunner. The settlement stands at the beginning of a second life, but not a return to the one the undead had lost.
Deathknell lies within Tirisfal, a countryside devastated by the plague and the fall of Lordaeron. For those who awaken there, the ruins of the human kingdom are both familiar and alien: their former neighbors may still serve the Scourge, while living survivors often regard any undead as enemies. The Forsaken need leaders, shelter, and a purpose independent of the power that raised them.
Mordo and Sarvis offer an explanation of the new political order rather than a cure for undeath. Their instruction establishes the central distinction of the Forsaken starting experience: those who broke free are not simply another garrison in Arthas's army. The story is an opening state for new adventurers and does not assume the completion of any particular quest or the fate of the people they may encounter.
