Full History
The Warsong clan came to Ashenvale after the orcs of Thrall's Horde crossed the sea to Kalimdor. Grom Hellscream's warriors needed supplies and pushed into forests sacred to the night elves. Cutting the trees brought the newcomers into conflict with the Sentinels, whose guardianship of the woods reached back through generations. To the orcs, timber meant survival and fortification; to the night elves, the same axes threatened a homeland protected by ancient powers.
The dispute escalated as Grom's fighters continued to seek resources in the face of resistance. Cenarius, the forest demigod, intervened against the destruction. Desperate for strength, Grom and his warriors drank from a source of Mannoroth's corrupted blood and used its demonic power to kill Cenarius. The victory deepened the very enslavement from which Thrall hoped to free his people, and the Warsong were drawn again beneath the Legion's shadow.
Thrall ultimately fought to release Grom from Mannoroth's influence, and Grom sacrificed his life destroying the pit lord. Yet the conflict over Ashenvale did not vanish with him. The lumber camps remained a visible consequence of the Horde's arrival: a need for shelter and building materials had become a war over whether one people could take what another considered sacred.
