Full History
Ironforge once united three proud dwarf clans beneath High King Anvilmar. The Bronzebeards, Wildhammers, and Dark Irons shared the mountain city, but their rivalries could not be contained after the high king's death. The contest for succession became the War of the Three Hammers, a struggle that determined which clan would hold the ancestral kingdom.
Madoran Bronzebeard emerged victorious. The Wildhammers left through Dun Algaz to establish Grim Batol, while the Dark Irons followed Thaurissan south into the Redridge Mountains. The separation did not end their hostility. Thaurissan later attacked Ironforge, and his wife Modgud struck the Wildhammers. Both were defeated, but Thaurissan's final attempt at revenge summoned Ragnaros and ruined his own kingdom.
Ironforge survived under Bronzebeard rule and gradually found common cause with other peoples. During the Second War, the kingdom's soldiers and engineers aided the Alliance against the Horde. The mountain held memories of its divided past, yet it had also become an indispensable ally to the human kingdoms. Its endurance rested on Madoran's victory and the generations of dwarves who defended what remained after the clans parted.
