Full History
The Kaldorei Resistance began when the night elves' own empire opened Azeroth to the Burning Legion. Queen Azshara's Highborne had sought power through the Well of Eternity, but their bargain invited demonic invasion. Lord Kur'talos Ravencrest rallied those who would not follow their queen into catastrophe.
The struggle drew together soldiers, priestesses and druids, then widened beyond the kaldorei. Malfurion Stormrage and his allies sought the aid of other peoples and the defenders of the natural world. Leadership passed to Jarod Shadowsong as the war escalated, and survival came to depend on forces that the empire had once treated as subjects or outsiders. Their enemy was not merely an invading army: the resistance fought against the decisions of its own rulers.
The Legion was denied the victory it sought, but the cost broke the world itself. The Sundering destroyed the old geography of Kalimdor and swept away the imperial society that had made the invasion possible. The resistance's legacy lay less in preserving Azshara's civilization than in ensuring that some of its people survived to build a different one.
