Full History
Lord Ravencrest helped organize the kaldorei resistance against Queen Azshara's demonic allies during the War of the Ancients. His command brought coherence to forces struggling against a calamity created at the heart of their own empire. An assassination ordered from the queen's side removed him while the war still raged. His death forced the defenders to reorganize at the moment they could least afford confusion.
The Legion's invasion was not a conventional war between two distant peoples. Azshara's Highborne court had helped prepare the gateway through the Well of Eternity, making resistance to the demons inseparable from rebellion against the empire's leadership. Ravencrest was among those who gathered armed opposition as the invasion expanded. His ability to command gave the resistance a structure beyond scattered acts of defiance, even as the overwhelming demonic threat endangered cities and armies across ancient Kalimdor.
Ravencrest's removal did not end the rebellion. Others, including Jarod Shadowsong, assumed greater responsibility for the coalition and its allies. The episode demonstrates both the danger of dependence upon individual commanders and the determination of the resistance to continue after serious losses. It belongs to the turning points that made the eventual defense of Azeroth possible, despite the fall of an experienced leader.
