Full History
Queen Azshara ordered the elimination of Kur'talos Ravencrest while his army resisted the Burning Legion. The commander who organized the defense of the kaldorei had become an obstacle to the queen's cooperation with the demons. Captain Varo'then carried out the court's design through an assassin, removing Ravencrest from the struggle.
The killing was an act of political warfare inside a larger invasion. Demonic forces were already threatening the night elves, yet Azshara's court treated the military resistance as a danger to its own plans. Ravencrest's soldiers were deprived of a leader at precisely the time when unity was needed to oppose the Legion's advance. What might once have been a question of loyalty to the throne had become a question of survival.
The death of Ravencrest did not dissolve the army he had gathered, but it tested its ability to keep fighting. Other commanders fell or proved unable to hold the coalition together, and Jarod Shadowsong eventually assumed command. The assassination therefore marks both the depth of Azshara's betrayal and the transfer of responsibility from an established noble commander to a different kind of leader among the defenders.
