Ancient beings connected to the natural world joined the defense of Kalimdor when the Burning Legion invaded. Their intervention brought strength older than the empire that had invited the demons. Even those guardians were not beyond harm. Malorne's death in battle against Archimonde became one of the war's gravest losses among the defenders of nature.
The kaldorei resistance relied on many kinds of allies as Azshara's Highborne continued opening the way for Sargeras. Druids such as Malfurion understood that the Legion threatened the living world itself, not merely the throne of one queen. The beings often called Ancients entered a battle in which forests, creatures, and civilizations were all at stake. Their participation emphasized that the natural order possessed defenders independent of the institutions of the night-elven empire.
Malorne's death made the cost of the conflict unmistakable. Defeating the Legion's immediate invasion did not preserve every ancient guardian or every part of Kalimdor. The Sundering still destroyed the single continent, and the survivors established a new relationship with the land. The chapter honors their intervention without pretending that supernatural power made its bearers invulnerable.
