A mysterious object lay among the ruins of Roland's Doom, and one frightened man carried its story into the forests of Duskwood. Jitters discovered the Scythe of Elune in the abandoned place and fled when terrifying wolf-men appeared. The experience would have remained a private nightmare if a second tragedy had not occurred. His desperate escape brought him to the Yorgen Farmstead, just as riders from Deadwind Pass descended upon the people who lived there.
Sven Yorgen was away. His wife and children were not. The riders killed the family, leaving the farm an empty and dreadful place. Jitters witnessed the scene while concealed near the barn, then buried his account close to an old stump. When Sven returned, he noticed signs of a stranger who had been near his home but could not pursue every clue while hunting those who had murdered his family. The buried book remained a fragment of evidence waiting for someone willing to search.
Following Sven's request, adventurers could recover the journal and trace Jitters's flight back through his troubled encounters with the scythe. The object carried an ominous reputation, and the riders' interest in the Yorgen farm suggested that the murder was not a random attack by ordinary brigands. The original quest text conveys fear, unexplained pursuit and the presence of supernatural powers without fully answering every question. One must resist the temptation to import all later explanations of the scythe's origin and the riders' complete history into the story as though they were known to the frightened witnesses.
The investigation also led toward Morbent Fel, a necromancer operating near Raven Hill Cemetery. To Sven, the discovery offered a way to confront part of the evil spreading through Duskwood. Yet even this did not yield a simple remedy. Morbent hid behind potent protections, and the people attempting to defeat him had to search for means to break the spell before striking. Every recovered page and every new name helped define an enemy that had seemed shapeless when Sven first saw his ruined home.
The Scythe mystery belongs to a land where the supernatural and the everyday meet with terrible consequences. Roland's Doom, Deadwind Pass, Raven Hill and the Yorgen Farmstead are places on a map, but in this story they form a path of frightened witnesses and grieving survivors. The question of who first made the scythe is not what drives Sven from his farm. What matters is that a terrible object drew danger across ordinary lives, and that one buried journal kept the living from losing the trail entirely.
