Full History
The cemetery at Raven Hill was established for the dead of a human settlement in old Brightwood. For years its graves marked the continuity of families who lived and worked in the southern reaches of Stormwind's kingdom. Burial was an act of remembrance, not a military necessity. The people who laid their relatives to rest could not know that the land would one day become Duskwood or that its dead might be forced from their graves.
When unnatural darkness overtook the region, the cemetery became a focus of necromantic disturbance. The dead no longer remained at peace, and the ruined village nearby lost the safety that a living community once provided. Morbent Fel's presence added deliberate sorcery to a landscape already burdened by fear. Travelers and survivors learned that the greatest danger was not simply the forest's changed appearance but the undoing of the boundary between the living and those they had buried.
The graveyard's history explains why Raven Hill is remembered with dread. Its earliest purpose was ordinary and humane; its later terror came from the corruption of that purpose. The tragedy reached beyond individual hauntings, turning a place built to honor the dead into a sign of how badly the old human countryside had been wounded.
