Full History
Nazgrel rose among the orcs who followed Thrall into Kalimdor, leaving behind the defeats, internment camps, and bitter memory of the Old Horde. The exodus offered no easy refuge. Durotar was a hard land to settle, and the people who had crossed the sea needed food, security, and alliances with their new neighbors. Thrall relied on commanders who could defend fledgling settlements without surrendering the effort to build a different kind of Horde.
Nazgrel became one of those trusted officers. As the orcs established Orgrimmar and pressed outward into the Barrens, old hatreds followed them across the ocean. Admiral Daelin Proudmoore arrived with forces from Kul Tiras, unwilling to accept Thrall's assurances that this Horde meant to leave old conquests behind. Raids and reprisals threatened to pull the new homeland into another war with humanity.
Alongside Rexxar, Rokhan, and other defenders, Nazgrel helped meet threats during the struggle for Durotar. The campaign ended with Proudmoore's defeat, leaving both orcs and humans to reckon with the gulf between Jaina's hopes for coexistence and her father's determination to destroy the Horde. Nazgrel's importance was rooted in that transition: he fought for a settlement the orcs intended to keep, not for a fresh invasion of distant kingdoms.
