Full History

Sylvanas Windrunner's Forsaken emerged from the collapse of the Scourge's control over parts of Lordaeron. They held the ruins of a kingdom that had once rejected undeath as an abomination, while enemies pressed from several sides. Alliance with Thrall's Horde promised a chance to survive. It was an uneasy arrangement, born from danger and necessity rather than a shared ancestral past.

Sylvanas had served unwillingly under Arthas before recovering enough freedom to challenge his authority. The undead who followed her were neither members of the old human monarchy nor simply extensions of the Lich King's army. They needed territory, allies, and recognition in a world where most living societies regarded them with fear. Their hold on Tirisfal and the Undercity provided a center of power but could not guarantee security.

The Horde likewise contained peoples recently displaced or endangered, including orcs, tauren, and Darkspear trolls. Their choice to accept the Forsaken enlarged the coalition while introducing distrust and different political aims. At the starting world, the bond exists but remains fragile. Its historical importance lies in demonstrating that the New Horde's unity was negotiated among peoples with sharply different histories.
