Full History
Stratholme became one of the defining tragedies of the Third War. When Arthas sought to stop the plague there, he ordered the killing of the city's inhabitants before they could become servants of the Scourge. The act split him from former allies and set him farther down the path that would destroy Lordaeron.
The city's suffering did not end with the purge. As the Scourge tightened its grip upon the north, Stratholme became an undead stronghold. The Scarlet Crusade also entrenched itself within the city, pursuing its own merciless war against the undead. To resist the Scourge there was to confront both the monsters born of the plague and the bitter divisions among those who claimed to fight them.
The Argent Dawn's interest in Stratholme followed from that long catastrophe. Its leaders sought to weaken the undead without embracing the Scarlet Crusade's fanaticism. Stratholme stood as a warning of how the fear of undeath could lead to atrocities even before the enemy had won, and why resistance required more than the willingness to kill.
