Stratholme remained an emblem of Lordaeron's destruction, and the Argent Dawn's struggle against the Scourge could not ignore it. Once a great northern city, it had become a place where undead forces and the ambitions of the Scarlet Crusade intersected. The Dawn's connections to efforts in and around the city revealed how tangled the war against undeath had become. No single faction could claim to have restored Stratholme.
The city's catastrophe began during the Third War, when plague and Arthas's desperate decisions drove it toward ruin. In the original World of Warcraft world, Stratholme still bore the scars of that collapse. Scourge forces occupied parts of the city; Scarlet Crusaders held others. Argent-aligned figures sought ways to challenge the undead without accepting the Scarlet movement's fanaticism. The result was a divided battlefield inside what had once been a thriving human center.
Original dungeon and quest material describes objectives open to adventurers rather than a completed campaign with a named victor. A historical overview can establish the Dawn's interest and the continuing contest without assuming that the instance was cleared. Stratholme's place in the Dawn's story is precisely its unfinished condition: the order stood against a disaster whose deepest wounds were still visible.
