Quick Overview

The Horde swept through Khaz Modan during the Second War, but Ironforge did not fall. Its mountain defenses protected the Bronzebeards even as the surrounding dwarven lands suffered occupation and raids. From their surviving fortress, dwarven engineers and warriors continued contributing to the Alliance war effort.

Full History

Orgrim Doomhammer's armies advanced north after the destruction of Stormwind, carrying war into the dwarven lands of Khaz Modan. Open roads and lesser strongholds proved vulnerable to the Horde's numbers, but Ironforge was a different prize. The great fortress was built into the mountain itself, and the invaders could not force their way through its defenses.

The failure to take the city did not spare the region. Orcish forces threatened roads, settlements, and access to the resources that kept the dwarven kingdom alive. Ironforge endured while much of the surrounding countryside remained contested. Its survival gave the Alliance a northern stronghold the Horde had failed to break.

The Bronzebeards supported the Alliance with specialized weapons and siegecraft. Dwarven demolition teams joined the wider struggle, while Wildhammer gryphon riders provided a different kind of aid from the skies. Ironforge's endurance mattered not only to the dwarves who sheltered there but to the coalition trying to hold the northern kingdoms together.
