Full History
Thaurissan City was born from defeat. When the Bronzebeards drove the Dark Iron clan out of Ironforge, Sorcerer-Thane Thaurissan led his followers south into the Redridge Mountains. There he founded a kingdom of his own and named its capital after himself, determined to prove that the Dark Irons could prosper without the ancestral mountain.
The new city grew, but success did not soften its ruler's humiliation. Thaurissan and his sorceress wife Modgud planned a two-pronged invasion of their rivals: he would attack Ironforge while she struck the Wildhammers at Grim Batol. Both assaults failed. The Dark Iron armies were broken, Modgud was killed, and Thaurissan retreated toward the kingdom he had built in exile.
Refusing to accept defeat, he attempted a powerful summoning. Instead of a force he could control, he called forth Ragnaros the Firelord. The being's arrival devastated the surrounding lands, brought Blackrock Mountain into being, and destroyed Thaurissan. His capital belonged to a vanished chapter of Dark Iron independence; the surviving clan entered a new age under the power of the elemental lord its ruler had unleashed.
