Full History

Garren's Haunt had been a working farmstead in Tirisfal before the Scourge brought ruin to Lordaeron. The plague destroyed the ordinary world of households and harvests along with the kingdom's armies. Garren and his family died during that catastrophe, leaving their land to decay as the living fled and the undead struggled for control of the province.

The abandoned farm attracted the Rot Hide gnolls, whose leader Maggot Eye became notorious around Brill. His band did more than steal supplies. Maggot Eye robbed corpses for the Lich King's army, turning the dead of the region into a resource for the very power that had devastated it. That made the gnolls a direct threat to the Forsaken, who had only recently escaped the Scourge's command.

Executor Zygand placed a bounty on Maggot Eye, seeking to end the thefts and demonstrate that the new authorities in Brill would defend their people. Garren's Haunt carried two linked histories: the destruction of a human household during the fall of Lordaeron, and the struggle of its undead successors to stop the Scourge's servants from continuing to exploit the dead. The farm's ruin was a consequence of conquest; the conflict over it was part of what came afterward.
