Full History
Blackrock Mountain did not fall silent after the Horde's defeat. Orcish forces remained behind, fragmented but still dangerous, while Dark Iron dwarves and other powers contested the mountain. The lower reaches of Blackrock Spire provided shelter, storage, and fighting ground for troops who no longer answered to a single warchief recognized by all orcs.
The Blackrock forces in the spire belonged to the surviving military culture of the Old Horde. Warriors, spellcasters, and the allies they gathered helped sustain Rend Blackhand's rival command. Their persistence tied the mountain to both great orcish invasions: the struggle that first established Horde dominion in the Eastern Kingdoms and the later defeat that scattered its clans.
Above them Nefarian exercised an increasingly powerful influence. His designs did not erase the ambitions of the orcs, but they placed the old army inside a new conflict involving the black dragonflight and the Dark Iron dwarves. The lower spire records the practical foundation of that arrangement: defeated soldiers had found a fortress in which to endure, only to become part of a contest whose true stakes reached far beyond their surviving clan loyalties.
