Full History

Darkshire's dead have many stories, but some are discovered not by fighting monsters but by reading forgotten papers. Stalvan. That uncertain clue sent investigators to the town's records and then farther afield, through the ordinary bureaucratic remains of a life spent moving between settlements. What emerged was not a tale of a stranger who had always served darkness. It was the history of a teacher whose obsession had become violent.

Stalvan Mistmantle had held respectable positions, including leadership of the schoolhouse at Moonbrook and work as a tutor for the Flintridge children. The trail crossed Westfall, Stormwind and Elwynn, gradually exposing the thoughts he had hidden from those who employed him. His attention settled on Tilloa Flintridge, a girl in his care. He mistook her courtesy for romantic attachment, then allowed the fantasy to harden into a belief that she owed him something. When he learned that the family's plans for her future did not match his wishes, his resentment overcame every duty he had assumed as a teacher.

The scattered accounts point to murder and a ruined household. This is a story that demands careful language: the original quest establishes a dreadful crime and Stalvan's responsibility, but some details of the victims and their final moments are reconstructed through incomplete journals and correspondence. Those gaps do not excuse the violence. They remind the reader that the investigation is being conducted after the fact, by people who have to assemble a history from what survives.

The final trail leads to Manor Mistmantle in Duskwood. There the once-respected tutor has become the danger named in Madame Eva's vision. The old records suddenly matter to the living. They reveal why the name Stalvan carries fear, what may happen to those who approach his house, and how an apparently private tragedy has entered the public life of Darkshire.

The Legend of Stalvan is one of Warcraft's rare investigations into a horror without grand armies, demons or world-ending prophecies at its center. The violence grows from a failure of character and a terrible abuse of trust. The quest's movement through letters, town ledgers and decaying houses gives Duskwood a history composed of individual lives rather than only cursed scenery. There are victims behind the legend, and the purpose of finding the papers is to prevent the forgotten past from claiming another.
