Quick Overview

Ruins in Zul'Gurub, Zul'Farrak, and the Temple of Atal'Hakkar recall troll histories older than the modern kingdoms. The Gurubashi and Amani had once possessed far greater territories, while the Hakkari and Atal'ai preserved blood-god worship after revolts split the southern trolls. The gates of Ahn'Qiraj remain sealed, and the wider story of Zul'Gurub has not been resolved through subsequent raids.

Full History

Ruins in Zul'Gurub, Zul'Farrak, and the Temple of Atal'Hakkar recall troll histories older than the modern kingdoms. Farther south, the sealed gates of Ahn'Qiraj mark another ancient danger not yet resolved in the opening world. These places preserve different wars and beliefs rather than one single surviving empire. Their continued presence shows how the world's remote past remained active beneath newer political conflicts.

The Gurubashi and Amani had once possessed far greater territories, while the Hakkari and Atal'ai preserved blood-god worship after revolts split the southern trolls. In Tanaris, Sandfury ruins reveal another branch of troll history. The war against the qiraji and the sealing of their stronghold belong to Kalimdor's older struggles. Each region thus bears a particular inheritance that cannot be replaced by a general description of forgotten ruins.

In the original patch 1.1 world, those inheritances are conditions and threats to encounter, not completed later raid campaigns. The gates of Ahn'Qiraj remain sealed, and the wider story of Zul'Gurub has not been resolved through subsequent raids. The chapter's purpose is to show the depth of the past beneath the apparent present, while leaving unfinished dangers unfinished.
