Quick Overview

The Western Plaguelands were once part of Lordaeron's settled heartland, tied to farms, roads, and the royal order that had held the northern human kingdoms together. The Argent Dawn placed its people on the approaches to the ruined kingdom, seeking to contain the undead and protect survivors without repeating the Scarlet Crusade's hostility toward outsiders. The Western Plaguelands approach thus became a frontier of endurance, where the Argent Dawn tried to keep the living from surrendering the last fragments of their former world.

Full History

The Western Plaguelands were once part of Lordaeron's settled heartland, tied to farms, roads, and the royal order that had held the northern human kingdoms together. The coming of the undead plague destroyed that security. Arthas's betrayal and the rise of the Scourge turned familiar villages into dangerous ground where the living could no longer depend upon the protection of their king.

Those who resisted needed more than one stronghold. The Argent Dawn placed its people on the approaches to the ruined kingdom, seeking to contain the undead and protect survivors without repeating the Scarlet Crusade's hostility toward outsiders. Holding a camp in such lands meant surviving among the remnants of a kingdom whose institutions had been swallowed by war.

The struggle was not an invasion of a foreign country. Lordaeron's defenders were fighting over the homes and burial grounds of their own dead, against an enemy that could raise those dead as soldiers. The Western Plaguelands approach thus became a frontier of endurance, where the Argent Dawn tried to keep the living from surrendering the last fragments of their former world.
