Full History
The tauren were never a single wandering band. Distinct tribes crossed Kalimdor with their own elders, traditions, and loyalties, united by reverence for the Earth Mother but divided by the need to survive. Centaur attacks repeatedly drove them from secure ground, making lasting cooperation difficult even when the danger was shared.
Cairne Bloodhoof's alliance with Thrall changed their prospects. Fighting together against common enemies and eventually helping defend the world from the Burning Legion gave the tauren the chance to establish Mulgore as a homeland. Thunder Bluff became the center of a broader gathering, where tribes could seek protection without surrendering every difference between them.
The new unity was imperfect. Magatha Grimtotem disputed Cairne's direction and imagined a different future for their people. Other tauren were more willing to embrace his friendship with the Horde, believing cooperation had made survival possible. Cairne's achievement was therefore not the elimination of tribal politics, but the creation of a place where those disagreements could be endured without returning to the constant flight of earlier generations.
