Full History
Tauren tribes gathered under Cairne Bloodhoof as the people sought security in Mulgore and a new home at Thunder Bluff. Unity offered protection against enemies who had long exploited their scattered settlements. The decision did not mean that every tribe agreed on the direction Cairne wished to take.
Cairne's alliance with Thrall was one reason he could offer hope beyond the survival of his own Bloodhoof clan. Orcish support had helped the tauren withstand centaur pressure and claim safer territory. A permanent settlement on Thunder Bluff's mesas allowed different groups to trade, worship, and organize defense while retaining their customs. The arrangement broadened Cairne's leadership from that of one chief aiding his immediate people to a figure whose choices affected many tauren communities.
The Grimtotem and other dissenters show that the coalition contained real political differences. Unity was achieved through leadership and common need, not through the disappearance of tribal identities. The formation of Thunder Bluff's society reflects the tauren's ability to cooperate while leaving unresolved questions about allegiance, authority, and their relationship with the Horde.
