Full History

Dalaran stood among the greatest centers of human magic, but its defenses failed when Arthas and Kel'Thuzad brought the Scourge against it. Arthas defeated Antonidas and seized the Book of Medivh, an artifact required for the summoning of Archimonde. The dread purpose of the campaign became clear when the Legion commander arrived. Dalaran's destruction announced a new stage of the Third War.

The Kirin Tor had nurtured magical knowledge since the old alliance between humans and high elves. Its towers and libraries made it a natural target for those needing a powerful spellbook. The Scourge reached the city after exploiting the Sunwell to restore Kel'Thuzad, combining stolen lore and necromancy to prepare the Legion's return. Antonidas fought to defend Dalaran, but the attackers secured the book and performed the summoning.

Archimonde then destroyed the city, showing that even mighty arcane defenses could not stand against the Legion's power when its servants had opened the way. Dalaran's ruin was not an isolated assault on scholars. It joined the devastation of Quel'Thalas to the next phase of the invasion and confirmed that the undead plague was part of a much wider strategy.
